Welcome to Sincerely Brown Skin, a podcast where I'm diving into the intimate areas of your life, on all things relationships, personal growth and self-love. I'm your host, quen, and my goal each week is to provide you with a little advice, a spoonful of encouragement and a sincere reminder that, honey, you are a wonder, you are magical, you are worthy. And then some. Now let's get this quick slide, for goodness. Today I want to speak on the topic of letting whatever it is that you have been holding on to since yesterday, last week, last month, last year, heck, 10 years ago just allowing yourself the courtesy to let it go. Many individuals find themselves devoid of joy and enthusiasm because they go to bed each night burdened by unforgiveness in their hearts. They replay their past hurts and dwell on their disappointment, stress over those attempting to possibly tarnish their reputation and seething over things done in the office. Well, herein lies the issue. If bitterness goes down with the sun, it will, without a doubt, return with the rising sun and, in the same likeness, if resentment is present at dusk, it will continue on at dawn. That's blocking God's blessing y'all and giving the enemy, or those people I should say, just too much power. Listen to me when I say this God has witnessed every aspect of your life, including the injustices, the unfortunate turn of events and the individuals who have wronged you. These people cannot make amends, nor can they fill any void within you and, regardless of their character, they lack the ability to satisfy your every need. Only God can do that. The scripture says he will give you beauty for ashes. He said that he will pay you back double for all of the unfair things that have been done to you within your life. With that being said, quit looking to people to make it up to you. Quit trying to get somebody to apologize, to admit that they were wrong, to give you what they honestly don't have to give. By releasing individuals of these burdens and leaving behind the quest for obtaining their perfect, politically correct behavior, honey, you will feel so much better. As a matter of fact, before going to bed every night, getting the habit of saying God, I will release all of the negativity from today, every hurt, every worry and disappointment. I forgive those who have wronged me and I am asking to go to bed in peace. I promise you, if you go to God, he will bring you out better. He'll make the rest of your life more rewarding and more fulfilling than if those negative things hadn't even happened in the first place.
Speaker 1:Allow me to share a little story with you guys. I think it's been a while since I've done so. There was an individual that did me so wrong y'all, I mean that fool had me in utter dismay and disgust. They had the nerve out of their own mouth, after being caught in a lie, to tell me well, not tell me. Yell at me the words actually I hate you and I want you out of my effing life.
Speaker 1:Because I stood in that living room, standing no more than 10 inches apart from that individual. I remember feeling as though my soul left my body and only standing there was an empty vessel. It was almost like an outer body experience that I couldn't believe was happening, and in that moment I wanted to cry, but I couldn't because I didn't want them to know the pain that I was enduring inside. I didn't want them to know the power that their words were truly having on me in that moment. So I took a deep breath and I walked out of the front door in silence and began to walk to my car, thinking to myself all the revenge I could possibly do, full transparency.
Speaker 1:I was ready to be Beyonce and that yellow dress walking down that street with that bat in tow and that hold up video, ready to demolish some stuff up. I didn't care how crazy I was going to look. That was literally the soundtrack playing in my head. You know that verse I smell your secrets and I'm not too perfect to ever feel this worthless. But how did it come down to this? Y'all know the song.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm happy to report that I went on home and, after losing sleep and realizing I was the only one losing sleep, I said girl, this ain't it, this individual. Don't give two rats behind about you. So why are you giving them all of this energy? I let it go. I forgave them for their harsh words. I forgave them for their ill actions towards me. And no, it didn't involve me telling them directly like, hey, I forgive you because the forgiveness wasn't for them, it was for me, so that I could go back to going to bed in peace, so that I could go back to God blessing me. That is why I forgave. So that is why I'm telling you today yeah, they are dead wrong for what they did to you, but, girl, let it go. Bless them from afar in all of their endeavors and keep in moving.
